MyPelletStove.com is created and designed by experts in bioenergy market to keep everyone informed about latest European and N. American biofuel market conditionsNew technology in Biofuel Appliaces (javascript:submitbutton('save');)Biofuel Appliances reviewsCommunity Discussions (Forums) The Pellet stove is getting more sophisticated by the day. In those countries where elegance is desired together with fast automatic heating, then the pellets stove is a primary choice like in Italy, they have bought pellets stoves in 100,000s. Pellet stove design is so intelligent nowadays, you can get the stove without chimney (KMP), with a water jacket in several models, or as an easily combined pellets and wood stove. In countries where electricity is used for heating, the pellets stove can save a huge amount of costs as well as MW power capacity on cold winter days - something to be considered by Sweden, France and Norway for example. In all other countries the pellets stove is just a sophisticated, intelligent, ecological and economic heating device.

2008 Market Overview from Wels Pellet Forum

The current market conditions were presented by during Pellets Forum Wels 2008 in Austria. Total of 60 countries presented 900 delegates. Jonas Höglund from SVEBIO, the Swedish Bioenergy Association said that total of 1,600,000 tons of pellets were used in 2007, and of them 600,000 were used in single family houses and 300,000 tons in the more important daily middle scale market up to 2 MW. Sweden now has 97 production plants (51 are below 5,000 tons per year and 5 over 100,000 MT/Y). In 2007 350,000 tons of wood pellets were imported into Sweden from countries like Canada, Estonia and Lithuania. Chairman ChristianRakos from Pro Pellets presented the Austrian situation. He told that the situation was quite better this year in comparison with the disaster last season. They have had to work hard with media communication and today the have a very positive press coverage. The pellets prices are low and stable, investments are increasing and the production capacity is somewhat lower than 1,000,000 tons. The domestic demand is around half of that so Austrian producers are into export, mainly to Italy. Italy currently holds the capacity of 600,000 tons of wood pellets says Marino Bertone Bertone from AIEL. More than 800,000 pellet stoves have been sold in Italy. Between 2005 and 2007 there is 400 percent increase in wood pellets production capacity in Germany. There are 40 German producers totaling the capacity of 1,800,000 tons with expected growth to 2,300,000 tons in 2008. The current issue in Germany as per Martin Bentele from German Pellets Association is lack of strong development trend. There are 85,000 heating units that use pellets but no large biofuel power plants. French government is now supporting the development of pellet plants. The sales of pellet stove in France are reaching now 10,000 units per year. There are 30 pellet plants and national pellet standards have been developed. Frédéric Douard from French Itebe presented France. During this session, Fransisco Puene-Escan, Spain, and Didier Marchal from Valbiom in Belgium presented their still small pellets countries, with the exception of the two very large power plants owned by Electra Bell in Belgium together using 700,000 tons of pellets. Switzerland pellets use is still quite low comparing with other countries. There are 4200 pellet stoves and 7400 pellet boilers. Total consumption is around 90000 tons per year national wide produced locally.

Pellet Stoves General Info

With sky high oil prices, the cost of heating a home is fast becoming a major expense in anyone’s budget. What can you do to ease the dilemma? Consider getting a pellet stove as a supplemental or primary heating device! Pellet stoves are now recognized as the new and popular way to provide heat. It burns wood pellets to provide hot air to a room or the entire house. These wood pellets are compacted and dense, causing it to burn efficiently and powerfully. Its low moisture content property means that less smoke and harmful gasses are released into the air. If you are an environmentalist, you will be happy to know that these pellets are simply a byproduct of leftover materials made from wood, nuts and other logging residues. Usually they come from scrap wood at sawmills, furniture manufacturers, paper packaging plants and recycling centers. The pellet manufacturer will dry and compress the scrap wood and form it into small cylinder shaped little pieces of wood. Its form is very similar to rabbit food.

Pellet Stoves Benefits

Fueling the pellet stove is very convenient. Generally, you need to fill the hopper only in the morning and it will already provide heat for the whole day. Loading the pellet is done simply by pulling the hopper out and pouring the bag of pellets into it. These pellet stoves hardly produce any smoke, which means you will never worry about the nasty smell and dryness. The exterior of this stove is also safe in the home. There is practically no heat when you touch the surface, and you can position the stove from the wall as close as one inch away. This also makes it very safe for your children or pets. The biggest advantage of a pellet stove is your savings on the cost of fuel that you will use to heat your home. This stove uses only wood pellets which costs an average of $3 for 40lbs. This can last you for a period of two days. If you compare this to the price of your fuel use for a month, you will immediately see the big difference.

How Do Pellet Stoves Work

Pellet stoves are a lot similar to wood stoves when you look at it from the outside, but inside they are sophisticated combustion appliances. The device holding the pellets is called the “hopper,” while the device that transfers it to the next chamber is an “auger.” To use it, you just need to load pellets into the hopper. The size of the hopper varies for each stove, and obviously, the bigger the hopper the more pellets you can load. There are two types of pellet stove: Top Feed – where the auger serves the pellets from the top. This type lessens the risk that the fire will burn back to the hopper. Although there is a chance that the ash gets caught up in its firebox grate, build up and cause the fire to die.Bottom Feed – where the auger serves the pellets horizontally and its ash moves to the sides where there is an ash pan to make cleaning and maintenance easy and safe. Some stoves are automatic while some will require you to manually light it. There is usually an internal thermostat to determine the heat and signals you when you need to add more pellets. The process of heating begins when the air in your room is sucked in with a built-in fan, and then transferred to the heating chamber. The resulting hot air will then be brought back into the vent system of your room or house.
